NEWS UPDATES
PRESS RELEASE: AUTONOMOUS DRIVING PILOT IN GJESDAL, NORWAY OPENS FOR PASSENGERS
24.2.2021
Sensible 4 self-driving pilot in Gjesdal, Norway opens for passengers. The EU-funded Horizon 2020 project FABULOS has been running in Norway since late January without passengers due to the requirements of local road authorities.
PRESS RELEASE: SENSIBLE 4 TO LAUNCH THE SECOND SELF-DRIVING PILOT IN NORWAY
28.1.2021
The Finnish self-driving software company Sensible 4 has started pre-pilot preparations at Gjesdal, Norway. This includes test-drives in harsh Norwegian winter and mapping of the route with autonomous Toyota vehicles.
PRESS RELEASE: VARYING WEATHER – THE MAJOR CHALLENGE OF AUTONOMOUS DRIVING
19.1.2021
Difficult weather conditions, like rain, wet or frozen road surfaces, are a well-known factor in car accidents. Weather is a problem for both human drivers and autonomous vehicles because of its unpredictability.
PRESS RELEASE: NEW AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES ARE LAUNCHED IN A ONE-YEAR TRIAL IN NORWAY
14.12.2020
Sensible 4, Ruter, mobility company Holo, and Toyota Motor Europe (TME) are collaborating to trial self-driving vehicles as an integrated part of the public transport service in the Oslo region in Norway for one year.

WEATHER
SOLVING THE BIGGEST PROBLEM FOR SELF-DRIVING VEHICLES
Let’s face it. Completely autonomous self-driving technology is not here yet. The biggest challenge for the industry to tackle so far has been difficult driving conditions. Most self-driving cars can only operate in ideal weather conditions and on well-marked roads.
Sensible 4 was founded as an answer to this. More than 30 years of research and development in harsh Nordic conditions has given us the experience to solve this problem. Our solution: a unique LiDAR-based software, built with state of the art sensor fusion – that make self-driving cars operate safely in all conditions, terrains and environments.
The technology is truly one of a kind and brings several key benefits to the table. It allows vehicles to drive on unmarked roads and without landmarks for localization. And best of all, it has a vision that can penetrate through fog, rain and heavy snow.
So how do we do it? Our software uses smart probabilistic 3D-mapping to create accurate predictions of the space around and allows the vehicle to see what is normally invisible to other self-driving cars. Our approach has been proven to be extremely accurate during repeated tests in the harsh winter conditions of Finnish Lapland.

WHAT MAKES OUR TECHNOLOGY UNIQUE?

PROVEN RECORD IN HARSH WINTER CONDITIONS
Tested in the harshest winter conditions in Finland in temperatures as cold as -28.

FILTERS OUT RAIN, FOG AND SNOW
Our unique algorithms filters out unwanted outliers and enables self-driving in all conditions.

SELF-DRIVING WITHOUT LANES AND ROADMARKS
Vehicles can drive on unmarked roads thanks to our superior positioning system

ACCURATE POSITIONING WITHOUT LANDMARKS
Our system can localize without physical landmarks or artificial structures in the environment

GACHA AUTONOMOUS SHUTTLE BUS
GACHA is the World’s First Autonomous Shuttle Bus designed for all weather conditions and environments. It was created in cooperation with MUJI and released in March 2019.
